Description | Anti-Growth Associated Protein-43 (GAP-43) Antibody |
Alternate Names |

Background Information | GAP-43, a common marker of differentiating neurons, is expressed at elevated levels by developing or regenerating neurons during axon growth. While GAP-43 is an integral membrane protein associated with the cytoplasmic surface of axonal growth cones (and synapses), it is absent from dendritic growth cones. In adult brain, GAP-43 is found in high concentration in presynaptic areas where memory formation is thought to occur, such as frontal cortex, limbic system and hippocampus. Phosphorylation of GAP-43 by PKC (at Ser41 on human, mouse, rat, and bovine GAP-43 or Ser42 on chicken and Xenopus GAP-43) is specifically correlated with certain forms of synaptic plasticity. |

Entrez Gene Number |
|
Entrez Gene Summary | The protein encoded by this gene has been termed a growth or plasticity protein because it is expressed at high levels in neuronal growth cones during development and axonal regeneration. This encoded protein is considered a crucial component of an effective regenerative response in the nervous system. |

Storage and Shipping Information | |
---|---|
Storage Conditions | Stable for up to 6 months at -20ºC in undiluted aliquots from date of receipt. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. During shipment, small volumes of product will occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial. For products with volumes of 200 µL or less, we recommend gently tapping the vial on a hard surface or briefly centrifuging the vial in a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container’s cap. |
